Ingredients

Units Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Butter (Can substitute with drippings if available.)
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour (Gluten-free flour blend can be used.)

Flavor Enhancers

  • 2 cups Beef broth (Use low-sodium broth if preferred.)
  • 1 teaspoon Bouillon (Optional but recommended.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder (Use a pinch to taste.)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder (Use a pinch to taste.)
  • to taste Black pepper
  • to taste Salt (Add only if needed after tasting.)
  • 1-2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (Optional, but adds great flavor.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Melt the butter over medium heat in a small saucepan.
  2. Whisk in the flour until it forms a smooth paste. Cook for 2 to 4 minutes based on desired depth of flavor.
  3. Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  4. Add the bouillon, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, whisking often. Allow to bubble lightly for 5 to 8 minutes until thickened.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding salt if necessary.

Notes

If the gravy is too thin, simmer longer to thicken. To fix gravy that is too thick, whisk in more broth a splash at a time. Store any leftover gravy in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
