Description

A quick, no-bake snack that combines the nostalgic flavors of strawberry shortcake with a crunchy, sweet cereal mix.

Ingredients

Core Ingredients

  • 5 cups Chex cereal (Rice Chex is recommended) (Choose a cereal that stays crunchy.)
  • 1 cup White chocolate chips or baking bars (Melt for coating.)
  • 1 cup Freeze-dried strawberries or strawberry powder (For flavor and coating.)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar (For coating.)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (optional) (Enhances the shortcake flavor.)
  • 1 tablespoon Butter or coconut oil (A little for smoother melting.)
  • 1 pinch Salt (Balances sweetness.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Measure chex cereal into a very large bowl to leave room for folding.
  2. Melt white chocolate with butter or coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving in 20-30 second bursts and stirring until smooth.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to the melted chocolate.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and gently fold until fully coated.
  5. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to cool slightly before coating with powdered sugar.

Coating

  1. In a separate bag, combine powdered sugar and crushed freeze-dried strawberries (or strawberry powder).
  2. Add half the coated cereal to the bag with the sugar mix, seal it, and shake gently to coat.
  3. Repeat with the second half of the cereal and then combine everything in a bowl, adding more powdered sugar if needed.

Notes

For best texture, allow puppy chow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. It stays fresh for 4-5 days. You can also make ahead for events, the flavors get better after sitting for a few hours.
