Ingredients
Fruits
- 3-4 medium Apples, peeled or unpeeled
- 3-4 medium Pears, peeled or unpeeled
Liquids
- splash Water or apple juice (to get things started)
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice (for brightness)
Spices
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon Cardamom
- pinch Cloves (a tiny pinch, it is strong)
- pinch Salt (to balance flavors)
Sweeteners
- to taste Sweetener (maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, or nothing) (optional, depending on fruit ripeness)
Instructions
Preparation
- Core the apples and pears, chop into chunks. Peels are optional.
- Toss fruit in slow cooker with lemon juice, spices, pinch of salt, and a splash of water or juice.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or high for 2 to 3 hours until the fruit is very soft.
- Mash with a potato masher for chunky sauce or use an immersion blender for smooth sauce.
Tasting & Adjusting
- Taste and add sweetener if needed. Adjust spices if desired.
