Ingredients

Units Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups chocolate (semi-sweet, dark, milk, or a mix) (Use chocolate you enjoy eating.)
  • 10 ounces caramels (store-bought squares or homemade) (Store-bought is easier, but homemade can be used if chewy.)
  • 2 cups pretzels (mini twists or thin sticks) (Avoid thick pretzels for better texture.)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (Only for melting caramels if needed.)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (Optional, helps caramel stay silky.)
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt (Highly recommended for topping.)

Optional Additions

  • chopped toasted nuts (For added texture.)
  • crushed cookies (For a different flavor.)
  • a sprinkle of cinnamon (To enhance flavor if desired.)

Instructions

Melting Chocolate and Caramel

  1. Melt chocolate in the microwave using 20-30 second bursts, stirring well after each, until smooth.
  2. For caramel, unwrap caramels and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Add cream and optional butter, then melt in short bursts, stirring until pourable.

Assembling the Bark

  1. Spread melted chocolate evenly in a thick layer onto a lined sheet pan.
  2. Scatter pretzels on top of the chocolate, pressing them in gently.
  3. Drizzle or spoon melted caramel over the pretzels.
  4. Add more melted chocolate as a drizzle if desired, then sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Setting the Bark

  1. Allow to set at room temperature or place in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Once set, lift the bark off the parchment and break into pieces.

Notes

Store the bark in an airtight container to keep it crunchy. Can be made ahead of time, and is great for gifting. Use parchment to separate layers if packaging.
