Ingredients
For the cheese ball
- 8 oz Cream cheese, softened (So it mixes easily)
- 8 oz Sharp cheddar, shredded (Freshly shredded preferred for better flavor)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Onion powder
- 1 tsp Smoked paprika (Or regular paprika for warmth and color)
- 0.5 tsp Salt (Adjust to taste)
- 0.5 tsp Black pepper (Adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (Optional, or a tiny splash of hot sauce)
For the coating and decoration
- 1 cup Finely shredded cheddar (For coating)
- 1 cup Crushed crackers (Or chopped pecans)
- 1 piece Pretzel rod (For the stem)
- 1 tbsp Fresh parsley or chives (Optional for decoration)
Instructions
Preparation
- In a bowl, stir softened cream cheese until smooth.
- Add shredded cheddar, seasonings, and Worcestershire sauce if using. Mix until everything looks evenly combined.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or 30 minutes in the freezer if short on time.
Shaping
- Scoop the mixture onto plastic wrap. Use the wrap to help you form a ball and shape it into a pumpkin-like form.
- Keep the cheese ball wrapped and use kitchen string to create the pumpkin grooves by looping and pressing lines around it softly.
Coating
- Unwrap the cheese ball and roll it in your coating of choice.
- Stick the pretzel rod into the top and add parsley or chives around it for decoration.
Chilling and Serving
- Set it on a plate, cover loosely, and chill again until serving time.
Notes
This recipe can be made a day in advance. Keep covered in the fridge to avoid picking up fridge smells. Freezing is possible when uncoated, and leftovers can be used in sandwiches or dips.
