Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 6 cups Fresh pears, about 5 to 6 medium
- 2-4 tablespoons Granulated sugar (Depends on how sweet your pears are)
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon Cornstarch (Helps thicken the juices)
- 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (optional)
Crumble Topping
- 3/4 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Old-fashioned oats (optional) (Can be omitted if preferred)
- 1/3 cup Brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons Cold butter, cut into small pieces (Use cold to maintain crumble texture)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preparation
- Heat your oven to 350 F and butter an 8×8 inch baking dish or spray it lightly.
- Peel the pears if you prefer a softer filling or leave the skins on for a more rustic texture. Slice into bite-sized pieces.
Mix Filling
- In a big bowl, toss the pears with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and vanilla (if using). Pour this mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
Make Crumble Topping
- In another bowl, mix flour, oats (if using), brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the cold butter pieces and use your fingers or a fork to pinch and mix until you achieve clumps with some sandy bits.
Bake
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pears. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the fruit is bubbling around the edges and the top is golden brown. Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a crispier topping, ensure the butter is cold and do not over mix. Let the crumble rest after baking to allow flavors to meld.
