Description

A quick and comforting one-pot pasta dish with sweet BBQ and savory sausage, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 12 oz Smoked sausage, kielbasa, or any fully cooked sausage (Slice into coins or half moons)
  • 8 oz Pasta (penne, rotini, or shells)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (Use your favorite brand, sweet or smoky)
  • 1/4 cup Honey (Regular honey is perfect)
  • 1 medium Onion (Optional, adds a savory base)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (Chopped, or garlic powder in a pinch)
  • 2 cups Chicken broth (Helps the pasta cook and builds flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream (Half and half works too)
  • 1 cup Cheddar or mozzarella cheese (For melty goodness)
  • to taste Salt and pepper (Go easy on salt as sausage and BBQ sauce are salty)
  • to taste Red pepper flakes or hot sauce (Optional for heat)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Slice your sausage into coins or half moons.
  2. Heat a little oil in a large pot or deep skillet and brown the sausage for a few minutes until golden.
  3. Add chopped onion (if using) and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic and let it cook for about 30 seconds.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and honey. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Add the dry pasta and stir until mostly covered in liquid.
  7. Bring to a gentle boil, then lower to a simmer.
  8. Cover and cook, stirring every few minutes until pasta is tender, about 10 to 14 minutes.
  9. If it looks too thick before pasta is tender, add a splash more broth or water.
  10. Once pasta is cooked, stir in cream and let it bubble for a minute.
  11. Turn off the heat and add cheese. Stir until melted. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Notes

This dish can be easily customized with different sausages or vegetables. For leftovers, store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. It can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
