Description
A quick and comforting one-pot pasta dish with sweet BBQ and savory sausage, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 12 oz Smoked sausage, kielbasa, or any fully cooked sausage (Slice into coins or half moons)
- 8 oz Pasta (penne, rotini, or shells)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (Use your favorite brand, sweet or smoky)
- 1/4 cup Honey (Regular honey is perfect)
- 1 medium Onion (Optional, adds a savory base)
- 2 cloves Garlic (Chopped, or garlic powder in a pinch)
- 2 cups Chicken broth (Helps the pasta cook and builds flavor)
- 1/2 cup Heavy cream (Half and half works too)
- 1 cup Cheddar or mozzarella cheese (For melty goodness)
- to taste Salt and pepper (Go easy on salt as sausage and BBQ sauce are salty)
- to taste Red pepper flakes or hot sauce (Optional for heat)
Instructions
Preparation
- Slice your sausage into coins or half moons.
- Heat a little oil in a large pot or deep skillet and brown the sausage for a few minutes until golden.
- Add chopped onion (if using) and cook until softened.
- Stir in garlic and let it cook for about 30 seconds.
- Pour in the chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and honey. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom.
- Add the dry pasta and stir until mostly covered in liquid.
- Bring to a gentle boil, then lower to a simmer.
- Cover and cook, stirring every few minutes until pasta is tender, about 10 to 14 minutes.
- If it looks too thick before pasta is tender, add a splash more broth or water.
- Once pasta is cooked, stir in cream and let it bubble for a minute.
- Turn off the heat and add cheese. Stir until melted. Taste and adjust seasoning.
