For the fondue
- 10-12 ounces chopped chocolate (or chips) (Use bittersweet, semisweet, or milk chocolate based on preference.)
- 1 cup heavy cream (or half and half in a pinch)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional) (Adds a cozy flavor.)
- 1 small pat butter (optional) (To make the fondue extra glossy.)
For dipping
- 1 cup fresh strawberries (Classic dipper.)
- 1 cup banana slices (Cut thick to prevent sliding off.)
- 1 cup pineapple chunks (Sweet and bright.)
- 1 cup apple slices (Toss with a little lemon to prevent browning.)
- 1 cup orange segments (Goes surprisingly well with dark chocolate.)
- 1 cup pound cake cubes (Wonderful texture.)
- 1 cup brownies (cut into bite-sized squares)
- 1 cup marshmallows (Try the big ones.)
- 1 cup pretzels (Great for a salty snap.)
- 1 cup potato chips (For sweet and salty combos.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Warm the cream over low heat until you see small bubbles at the edge. Do not let it boil.
- Turn off the heat, add the chopped chocolate, and let it sit for about 2 minutes.
- Stir until smooth. Add salt and vanilla, taste, and adjust as needed.
- If the fondue feels too thick, add a splash more warm cream.
- Pour the mixture into a serving bowl and serve warm.
Serving
- Offer a variety of dippers and encourage guests to try different combinations.
- If you have more than 6 people, consider using two bowls of chocolate fondue.
Notes
Serve with skewers or toothpicks, and keep a small pitcher of warm cream nearby to adjust the consistency as necessary. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated gently.
