  • 1 medium Onion, chopped (For sweetness and flavor.)
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced (Adds aromatic flavor.)
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste (Enhances the broth's richness.)
  • 28 oz Crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 4 cups Beef or chicken broth (Use beef for classic flavor, chicken is fine too.)
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt (Adjust to taste.)
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper (Freshly cracked for best flavor.)
  • 0.25 tsp Red pepper flakes (Optional, for heat.)
  • 2 cups Pasta (Mafalda, bowties, or rotini are great options.)
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream (Optional, for extra creaminess.)

Three-Cheese Topping

  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese (Classic choice for creaminess.)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded (Adds stretch and richness.)
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (For sharp flavor.)
  • 1 pinch Salt (To season the cheese mixture.)
  • 1 pinch Black pepper (To season the cheese mixture.)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (Optional, for freshness.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Brown the ground beef in a big pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the tomato paste and let it cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and broth.
  6. Add Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  8. Add the pasta and cook until just tender.
  9. Turn off the heat and adjust seasoning to taste, adding cream if desired.

Serving

  1. Top each bowl with the three-cheese mixture and let it melt.

Notes

For best results, avoid overcooking the pasta. If making ahead, cook pasta separately and add to individual servings.
