Description
This homemade honey garlic sauce is a quick and easy weeknight solution that adds sticky, sweet, and savory flavors to chicken and other dishes.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 cup honey (For sweetness and sticky finish)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (Regular or low sodium for salty depth)
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar (To prevent the sauce from tasting flat)
- 2 tablespoons water (To loosen it while it simmers)
- 2-4 cloves garlic, minced (Adjust based on preference for garlicky flavor)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (Optional but recommended for thickening)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (A few drops at the end for aroma)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (Optional for a little heat)
Instructions
Preparation
- In a small saucepan, add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, water, and minced garlic.
- Set it over medium heat and stir until it looks combined and starts to bubble gently.
- Let it simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes so the garlic softens and the flavors meld.
- If you want it thick and glossy, add your cornstarch slurry while stirring.
- Turn off the heat and stir in a few drops of sesame oil if using.
Notes
Store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze in small portions for up to 3 months. Reheat gently with a splash of water if it thickens too much.
