Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 1 cup Ketchup (Your base and your body)
- 1/4 cup Brown sugar (Light or dark both work)
- 2-3 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar (Start with 2 and adjust)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Yellow mustard
Spices
- 1-2 teaspoons Smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- a pinch Salt (Optional, taste first)
- a few dashes Hot sauce (Optional but really good)
Instructions
Preparation
- Add everything to a small saucepan: ketchup first, then brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and the spices.
- Turn the heat to medium and stir until the sugar melts and the sauce looks smooth.
- Once it starts to gently bubble, turn the heat down to low. Let it simmer for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the sauce. Adjust the flavor by adding more vinegar for tang, more brown sugar for sweetness, more hot sauce for heat, or a pinch of salt if it tastes flat.
- Let it cool slightly. The sauce will thicken as it sits.
Notes
For different flavors, try adding cayenne pepper for spice, liquid smoke for a smoky flavor, or honey for a sticky sweetness. This sauce is great for grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or even as a pizza drizzle.
