Main Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (Standard flour for soft texture.)
- 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast or instant yeast (Both types work, but instant is usually faster.)
- 1.5 cups warm water or warm milk (Use around 105 to 110 degrees F.)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (Enhances yeast activation and flavor.)
- 1 teaspoon salt (Essential for flavor.)
- 3 tablespoons butter or oil (Keeps the crumb soft.)
- 1 optional egg (For extra richness and softness.)
Instructions
Mixing the Dough
- In a large bowl, mix warm water or milk with yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add sugar, salt, butter, and egg, then mix thoroughly.
- Gradually add flour until dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 minutes by hand or 4 to 6 minutes in a stand mixer.
Shaping and Rising
- Shape the dough into a log and cut it into equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball and place in a greased baking pan.
- Cover loosely with a towel and let rise in a warm place until puffy, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Bake the rolls for 15 to 20 minutes, until tops are golden and they sound hollow when tapped.
- Brush the tops with melted butter immediately after baking.
Notes
To keep rolls soft after baking, cover with a towel. For variations, try brushing with garlic butter, honey butter, or sprinkle with parmesan. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or freeze for later use.
