Main Ingredients
- 2 cups chicken broth (boxed, canned, or homemade)
- 3 tablespoons butter or chicken fat (for richness)
- 3 tablespoons flour (for roux, or cornstarch if using a slurry)
- to taste salt (use if needed, especially if broth is not low sodium)
- to taste black pepper
Optional Seasonings
- to taste garlic powder
- to taste onion powder
- to taste poultry seasoning
Instructions
Making the Gravy
- Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Whisk in 3 tablespoons of flour until smooth.
- Slowly pour in 2 cups of warm chicken broth while whisking continuously.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer; it will thicken as it heats.
- Season with salt (if needed) and black pepper to taste.
Notes
For a richer gravy, use chicken drippings instead of butter. If it’s too thick, whisk in more broth a splash at a time. If it’s too thin, simmer longer or make a cornstarch slurry to thicken.
