Description

A rich and flavorful bread, perfect for cozy dinners or snacks, featuring crispy edges, buttery centers, salty olives, and melty cheese.

Ingredients

For the garlic butter

  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened (Use softened butter, not melted.)
  • 3 to 5 cloves garlic, finely minced (Or 1.5 teaspoons garlic powder in a pinch.)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (Optional, but adds flavor.)
  • 1 pinch salt (Only if your butter is unsalted.)
  • 1 pinch chili flakes (Optional for heat.)

For the bread

  • 1 loaf bread (French or Italian bread recommended.)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella (Provides stretch.)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack (Adds flavor.)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped green or black olives (Pat dry if packed in brine.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a baking sheet inside if you want crispy edges.
  2. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt (if needed).

Assembly

  1. Spread the garlic butter generously on the cut sides of the bread.
  2. Sprinkle the chopped olives evenly over the buttered bread.
  3. Layer the shredded cheeses, starting with mozzarella, followed by cheddar, and topping it with extra mozzarella.

Baking

  1. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until cheese is melted.
  2. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes for golden, bubbly spots, watching closely to avoid burning.

Serving

  1. Let the bread rest for 2 minutes, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

For variations, consider adding jalapenos for heat, dried oregano for herbiness, or cream cheese for richness.
