Main Ingredients
- 4 pieces Fresh apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended) (Choose crisp and tart apples for best results.)
- 1 cup Caramel (Either homemade or store-bought.)
- 1 cup Chocolate for dipping (dark, milk, or semi-sweet) (Melting wafers or good quality chocolate recommended.)
- 1 tablespoon Neutral oil or coconut oil (Optional for smoothing melted chocolate.)
Toppings
- 1/2 cup Chopped peanuts (For added crunch and flavor.)
- 1/2 cup Mini chocolate chips (Optional for extra chocolate flavor.)
- 1/2 cup Crushed pretzels (Adds a sweet and salty crunch.)
- 1/4 cup Toasted coconut (For a tropical twist.)
- 1/4 cup Sprinkles (Kid-friendly decoration.)
- a pinch Flaky salt (Enhances flavor.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Wash and slice the apples into 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick slices, removing the core as desired.
- To prevent browning, dip the apple slices in cold water mixed with lemon juice, then dry thoroughly.
- Melt caramel in a microwave-safe bowl. If using unwrapped caramels, add a splash of cream to make it easier to drizzle.
- Spoon caramel over each apple slice and let set in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
Dipping
- Melt chocolate in the microwave: heat for 20 seconds, stir, then heat for 15 seconds, and stir until smooth.
- If using chocolate chips, add a small spoonful of coconut oil to help it melt smoothly.
- Once the caramel has set, dip each apple slice into the melted chocolate, making sure to cover it completely.
- Immediately add desired toppings while the chocolate is still wet.
Setting
- Place the dipped apple slices on a parchment-lined tray and let them sit for 20-30 minutes to set completely.
Notes
These slices are best served the day they are made, but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. Keep in mind that they can become slightly soft over time.
