Main Ingredients
- 1 lb Beef (flank steak, sirloin, or skirt steak) (Slice thinly against the grain for tenderness.)
- 4 cups Broccoli florets (Fresh florets are best, but frozen works in a pinch.)
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced (Fresh garlic provides better flavor.)
- 1 tbsp Fresh ginger, grated (Or a small pinch of ground ginger if fresh isn't available.)
For the Sauce
- 1/3 cup Soy sauce (Use tamari for gluten-free.)
- 1/2 cup Beef broth or water
- 1-2 tbsp Brown sugar or honey (Adjust to taste.)
- 2 tsp Cornstarch (Whisk well into the sauce.)
- 1 tsp Sesame oil (Optional, but adds flavor.)
For Cooking
- 2 tbsp Neutral oil (e.g., avocado or canola) (For cooking the beef.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain and chop broccoli into florets.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, beef broth or water, brown sugar or honey, cornstarch, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
Cooking
- Steam broccoli for 2-3 minutes or boil for 60-90 seconds until bright green and just tender. Drain and set aside.
- Heat a large skillet or wok until hot, add a little oil, and sear the beef in a single layer for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Return all the beef to the pan, add the broccoli, and pour in the sauce. Stir for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is coated.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more honey for sweetness or soy sauce for salt.
Notes
To enhance flavor, finish the dish with a few drops of sesame oil. Serve with rice or noodles of choice.
