Ingredients
Pretzel Dough
- 1 cup Warm water (Should be bath water warm, not hot)
- 1 packet Instant yeast or active dry yeast (For leavening)
- 1 tablespoon Sugar (Just a little, to activate the yeast)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (For flavor)
- 3 cups All purpose flour (Add gradually until the dough is soft)
- 2 tablespoons Oil or melted butter (For tenderness)
- 1 large Egg (Optional for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon Coarse salt or pretzel salt (For topping)
- 2 tablespoons Butter (For brushing at the end)
Instructions
Prepare Dough
- In a large bowl, stir warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in salt and oil, then add flour gradually until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Shape Pretzel Bites
- Divide dough into 4 pieces and roll each into a rope about as thick as your finger.
- Cut each rope into bite-sized pieces (about 1 inch each).
- Place them on a plate while the air fryer preheats. Do not stack too much.
Cook Pretzel Bites
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F.
- Lightly oil the basket or use parchment.
- Arrange the bites in a single layer and air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking halfway through.
- For deeper color, brush with egg wash before cooking, if desired.
Finish and Serve
- Brush hot pretzel bites with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt immediately.
- Serve with dipping sauces, both sweet and savory.
Notes
These bites can be made ahead and stored. They reheate well in the air fryer. Consider serving with cheese sauce, honey mustard, or warm chocolate sauce.
