These festive chocolate chip cookies have crisp edges, soft centers, and just the right amount of spices to feel cozy and inviting during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened to room temp
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar (Packed)
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 large Large eggs (Room temp if possible)
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch (For softness)
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking powder (A pinch)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (Holiday spice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg (Just a whisper)
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toasted pecans, crushed peppermint, or dried cranberries (Mix-ins)
  • to taste Flaky sea salt (For topping)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Pull your butter and eggs out first to reach room temperature.
  2. Measure your flour by fluffing it, spooning it into the cup, and leveling with a knife.
  3. Line two baking sheets with parchment and clear space in your fridge to chill the dough.

Mixing the Dough

  1. Cream the butter and sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Scrape the bowl. Add eggs one at a time and beat until just combined. Mix in the vanilla.
  3. Whisk flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices together.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture on low speed. Mix until just combined and do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and any add-ins by hand.

Chilling Dough

  1. Cover the bowl and chill at least 30 minutes. Overnight is best if you can wait.

Baking

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Scoop the dough and place on parchment-lined pans, leaving generous space between each dough ball.
  3. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes depending on size, until edges are set and lightly brown; centers should look soft.

Finishing Touches

  1. While warm, tap extra chips on top if desired. Sprinkle with flaky salt.
  2. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days at room temperature. Freeze baked cookies up to 2 months and thaw at room temp.
