Description

A creamy, salty, and nostalgic dip that’s perfect for parties or casual snacking.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened (Full fat tastes best.)
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt (For a lighter, tangy finish.)
  • 1 can Minced clams, drained (Save a little clam juice just in case you want to loosen the dip.)

Flavor Boosters

  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped green onion (Or a small amount of grated onion.)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder (Add a pinch of paprika if desired.)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice (Optional but recommended to enhance flavors.)
  • to taste Black pepper
  • to taste Salt (Only if needed after tasting, as clams can be salty.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it on the counter for 30 to 45 minutes, or microwave it for a few seconds until it’s soft enough to stir smoothly.
  2. In a bowl, stir together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. For extra fluffiness, use a hand mixer for 20 to 30 seconds.
  3. Fold in the drained minced clams, chopped green onion, garlic powder, a squeeze of lemon, and black pepper.
  4. If the mixture feels too thick, add a teaspoon or two of reserved clam juice to adjust the texture, being careful not to make it runny.
  5. Taste the dip and adjust seasonings as desired. Add more lemon, pepper, or garlic powder if needed, and avoid adding salt until tasting.
  6. Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld, or longer for the best taste.

Notes

Chill at least one hour; two is even better. The dip can be made up to 24 hours ahead and stored in an airtight container. It is best consumed within 3 days. Avoid freezing as it may alter the texture.
