Description

Delicious and easy Crockpot French Dip Sandwiches made with tender chuck roast, melted cheese, and crusty rolls, all served with rich au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds chuck roast (Perfect for shredding.)
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 3 cups beef broth (Or stock, whatever is available.)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 pieces fresh crusty rolls (Hoagie rolls or French bread recommended.)
  • 6 slices provolone, Swiss, or mozzarella cheese (Cheese is mandatory.)

Optional add-ons

  • sliced onion (Great for sweetness.)
  • 1-2 pieces bay leaf (Enhances earthy flavors.)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (Or fresh herbs if available.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Plop the chuck roast in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the top.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  4. Add any optional onions or herbs now.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for about 8 hours (or HIGH for 4 hours, but LOW is preferred).
  6. Shred the beef with two forks once cooked.
  7. Toast the rolls, add a pile of beef, and lay on heavy slices of cheese.
  8. Serve with a bowl of the leftover cooking liquid for dipping.

Notes

Let the beef cool slightly before shredding for easier handling. Toast rolls to avoid sogginess. Strain the au jus if preferred.
