Description

Delicious and easy-to-make apple fries that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfect for snacks, desserts, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Apple Fries

  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety) (Choose apples that hold their shape.)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (Regular breadcrumbs can be used as a substitute.)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (Can be swapped for pumpkin pie spice in the fall.)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • as needed Cooking spray (Light spray helps brown the crumbs without sogginess.)

For the Dipping Sauce (optional)

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (For dunking.)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (Lighter option for dipping.)

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Peel the apples if desired and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Remove the core and seeds. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar and set aside.

Breading Station Setup

  1. Place the flour in one bowl, the beaten eggs in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  2. Add half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture to the breadcrumbs and mix well.

Coating the Apple Slices

  1. Dredge each apple slice in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Dip it into the beaten egg, ensuring it is fully coated.
  3. Press the slice into the breadcrumb mixture, making sure it is evenly coated. Repeat the process for all apple slices.

Cooking

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  2. Arrange the breaded apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  3. Spray the slices lightly with cooking spray.
  4. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the apple fries are golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. While the apple fries are still hot, sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra sweetness.
  2. Serve immediately with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer to restore crunch. Apple fries can also be chopped and added to salads for a sweet texture.
