Description
A creamy and cozy dip with a pop of heat, perfect for gatherings and easy to make in a pinch.
Ingredients
Dairy Ingredients
- 8 oz Cream cheese, softened (For a rich, smooth base.)
- 1/2 cup Sour cream or Greek yogurt (To loosen up the dip.)
- 1 cup Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a mix) (Adds flavor and creaminess.)
Vegetables & Seasonings
- 2 medium Jalapenos, chopped (Fresh or pickled depending on preference.)
- 1 tsp Garlic powder (For added flavor.)
- 1 tsp Onion powder (For added flavor.)
- 1/2 tsp Salt (To taste.)
- 1/4 tsp Black pepper (To taste.)
- 1 tsp Lime juice (Optional, for added brightness.)
- 2 tbsp Chopped green onion (Optional for garnish.)
- 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika (Optional for flavor.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Set the cream cheese out for 20 to 30 minutes to soften. If you forget, microwave it for about 10 seconds at a time, but do not melt it.
- In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and sour cream until mostly smooth. A fork works, but a hand mixer makes it extra fluffy.
- Stir in the shredded cheese, jalapenos, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Taste it and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Scoop the mixture into a small baking dish and spread it evenly.
- If using fresh jalapenos, sauté them for 2 to 3 minutes before mixing to mellow their sharpness.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the dip for about 18 to 25 minutes, until hot and bubbly with a lightly golden top.
- For a more browned top, broil for 1 to 2 minutes at the end, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- Let the dip sit for 5 minutes before serving to thicken slightly.
Notes
This dip can be made ahead of time; just mix everything and refrigerate up to 2 days before baking. For freezing, prepare unbaked dip in a freezer-safe dish for up to 1 month.
