- 1 lb Ground beef (Use 85% lean for best flavor.)
- 1 cup Rice (Long grain white rice recommended.)
- 1 medium Onion, chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 2 cups Beef or chicken broth
- 15 oz Tomato sauce or diced tomatoes
- 1 cup Cheese, shredded (cheddar recommended) (Shred your own for best melting.)
- 1 tsp Salt (Adjust to taste.)
- 1 tsp Pepper (Adjust to taste.)
- optional Frozen peas, corn, or chopped bell peppers (Add as desired.)
Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, then add minced garlic for 30 seconds.
- Drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in rice, broth, and tomato sauce. Add salt, pepper, and your choice of spices.
- Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish and cover tightly with foil.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven until rice is tender, usually 35-45 minutes for white rice.
- Remove foil, top with cheese, and bake for an additional 8-12 minutes until melted and bubbly.
- Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before scooping so it sets up.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Reheat with a splash of broth or water to loosen it up.
