Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- Brown the beef in a large skillet with chopped onion. Add garlic when beef is mostly cooked and cook for about 30 seconds.
- Stir in seasonings, tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes), broth, and rice. Ensure uncooked rice is fully covered by liquid.
- Add sour cream or Greek yogurt and stir in half of the cheese. Adjust salt to taste.
Baking
- Cover the dish with foil and bake until rice is tender, 30 to 45 minutes.
- Top with remaining cheese and bake uncovered for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, until bubbly.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, let the spices toast with the beef before adding liquids. Don’t skip the resting time after baking to ensure a creamy texture.
