Description

This dip is full of deep onion flavor, combining caramelized onions with cream cheese and sour cream for a rich and savory treat.


Ingredients

For the Dip

  • 3 medium medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 60 ml dry white wine (Can be substituted with vinegar or water)
  • 340 g sour cream
  • 225 g cream cheese, softened
  • 1 clove garlic, grated (optional)
  • to taste Fresh parsley, minced
  • few dashes Worcestershire or soy sauce (to taste) (Soy sauce can be used for a vegetarian option)


Instructions

Cooking the Onions

  1. Melt butter in a pan, then add onions, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cook low and slow for about 30 minutes until jammy and golden.
  3. Deglaze with white wine in splashes, letting it reduce fully.
  4. Chop the onions or snip with scissors for smaller pieces.

Mixing the Dip

  1. In a bowl, mix cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
  2. Add the cooked onions, grated garlic, soy or Worcestershire sauce, and minced parsley. Stir and taste.

Serving

  1. Serve the dip warm or cold with potato chips, slices of baguette, or raw vegetables.

Notes

For a firmer dip, chill before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to one month.
