Description
This dip is full of deep onion flavor, combining caramelized onions with cream cheese and sour cream for a rich and savory treat.
Ingredients
For the Dip
- 3 medium medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp salted butter
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 60 ml dry white wine (Can be substituted with vinegar or water)
- 340 g sour cream
- 225 g cream cheese, softened
- 1 clove garlic, grated (optional)
- to taste Fresh parsley, minced
- few dashes Worcestershire or soy sauce (to taste) (Soy sauce can be used for a vegetarian option)
Instructions
Cooking the Onions
- Melt butter in a pan, then add onions, salt, and sugar.
- Cook low and slow for about 30 minutes until jammy and golden.
- Deglaze with white wine in splashes, letting it reduce fully.
- Chop the onions or snip with scissors for smaller pieces.
Mixing the Dip
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
- Add the cooked onions, grated garlic, soy or Worcestershire sauce, and minced parsley. Stir and taste.
Serving
- Serve the dip warm or cold with potato chips, slices of baguette, or raw vegetables.
Notes
For a firmer dip, chill before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to one month.
